The presentation will focus on the impact of domestic violence and substance abuse on child support, spousal support and child custody. We will explore the law, requirements of proof and the court’s perspective. We will review a few case studies on the subject. Together, we will review the various pleadings needed for this type of case and review each pleadings’ purpose. We will discuss how to prepare your client whether your client is the “abuser”, “user” or the “other spouse”.

Presenter Veronica R. Woods, Esq. is a Senior Associate in the Family Law Practice Group of Lewitt, Hackman, Shapiro, Marshall & Harlan. Ms. Woods represents clients in all dissolution aspects involving custody and visitation matters, child and spousal support, property control, division of assets and domestic violence restraining orders. Her experience also includes pre- and post-nuptial agreements, annulments, parentage matters and restraining orders. She has participated in private Voluntary Settlement Conferences and represented clients in lengthy court trials.
