Restore Altadena School Garden
For Youth Eaton Fire Survivors
Help John Muir High School's garden clean up their overgrowth after being shut down by the Eaton fire and give them a fresh start for the New Year. This event is hosted in partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.
Why:
Almost a third of John Muir High School students lost their homes in the Eaton Fire and were displaced. Pasadena Unified School District's (PUSD) gardens help alleviate students' stress and grief as both centers of learning and health. Volunteers are vital in garden upkeep.
Who:
As part of their Farm to School Program, PUSD and their full-time Master Gardener manages 10 school gardens. They provide outdoor classroom space for students to learn and organic school cafeteria offerings.
What to Expect:
Rejuvenating garden beds with compost and soil.
Weeding.
Sifting soil.
All around garden maintenance.
What's Required:
Please wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection.
Bring your own water.
Come with a willingness to work hard.
Volunteers 13-17 must either be accompanied by a parent/guardian or have their signed permission via L.A. Works' Volunteer Project Minor Waiver.
Hand sanitizer and a hand-washing station will be available.
Let's dig in, together!
