Confidentiality and Professionalism is designed to discuss the elements of ethics regarding client files, including the ethical rules for safekeeping and destruction of files, confidentiality obligations, and professional conduct standards. The course will examine how California Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.6 regarding Confidential Information of a Client, ABA Model Rule 1.6 concerning Confidentiality of Information, ABA Model Rule 1.3 regarding Diligence, and ABA Model Rule 1.4 regarding Communication apply within legal practice and directly impact paralegals and legal support staff. Special attention will be given to a paralegal’s role in maintaining client confidentiality, properly handling sensitive information, communicating effectively with supervising attorneys and clients, and supporting ethical and diligent representation throughout the legal process.

Michelle Eggli earned her Master's in Business, Law and Technology from The Colleges of Law and currently holds the Certified Paralegal certification from NALA. She owns a paralegal freelance company, Goodland Paralegal, LLC, where she assists local attorneys with their litigation practices and conducts MCLE courses approved by the Cal Bar. Ms. Eggli has been teaching paralegal courses since 2015 and truly enjoys sharing the knowledge she has gained over the years by working as a paralegal with her students. She has experience in teaching a multitude of paralegal topics, specializing in Legal Ethics, Contract Law and Civil Litigation.
